In the end, we finished the dollhouse in time to give it to Grace for her 4th birthday. And, by in time, I mean with minutes to spare :)
But, back to the outside...
Each shingle on this dollhouse, was lovingly and painstakingly glue into place by my husband.
The stained glass window, created by my father in-law, is the same color stained glass as the butterflies he made for Grace's room.
I attached a Polly Pocket bird to one of the decorative moldings. I liked the idea of this sweet bird watching over Grace as she plays with her dollhouse.
Each of these details, constructed by my husband, came from this box.
Each piece of siding needed to be glued on separately. Some pieces even required coping in order to fit it perfectly around the curves of the windows and door frames.
The front porch has a a working porch light, house numbers, welcome mat and a miniature Riley.
Just like the mat, I'd like to welcome you inside
....but that will have to wait until tomorrow. Click here to come on in.
Honest to goodness, you put us all to shame! I love the shingles. I know silly, but they add so much character. The stain glass window is amazing too!

ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon your blog a few weeks ago, and I love it! I wanted to just say WOW at this dollhouse! I had purchased a kit like this one. It wasn't as big but I can really appreciate all the details. I didn't make it thru putting up the walls. Yours looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteTara, thank you so much. I feel humbled when I see a comment from someone new, especially one so nice. If you need any tips, during your building process, drop me an email. Best of luck and thank you again.

This is so totally awesome! We have one in the works for our youngest - she got it for a gift for Christmas not this past Christmas but the one before. I so wish it were finished. I really wish I hadn't said yes when my mom called and asked if we wanted that one. i had no idea it was so involved. it's not the exact same dollhouse as yours but it is just as involved.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering when we were going to get to see the final outcome of the doll house:D You guys did an awesome job!! LOVE all the little details like the little bird, dog, and stain glass windows! I want to come over and play;)
ReplyDeleteOh, I just adore Grace's reaction and that you caught it on film! Kudos to your husband!
