Pinterest Comments

I regularly check pinterest to see what things have been pinned from my blog.  Did you know you could do that?  I am assuming most bloggers know this but maybe non bloggers don't realize this.

Generally, the descriptions for the "pin" are informational or complimentary or a description of why it provided inspiration.

Someone recently pinned my felt corn tutorial

and they described their pin as:  "Freakin' love fake felt food."

Someone else pinned a picture from the ROCK A-Bye-Baby shower I threw

and they described their pin as:  "While Wearing Heels: Rock A-Bye-Baby Shower {so unique an idea!!!}"

Sometimes, though, you'll find something pinned like my wooden sailboat tutorial and you'll find a comment that surprises you like...

"Just to clarify, since most people just assume this to be the case, just because I pinned this does not mean that I like this site."

I had to laugh at how absurd the description of this pin was.

By no means do I think everyone that visits my blog is going to walk away loving my tutorials or my posts OR that things that get pinned will result in fawning over my idea or even a new follower.

So, when someone pins something they did find inspirational from my blog with a disclaimer that they do not like my site seems unnecessary.

I bring this up to my followers, not to get solicit compliments or reassurance, because I already know, if you are reading my blog, you must like me.  I bring this up, instead, to find out what your own pinterest experience has been.

  1. Hi, Amy.... Maybe the weird pinner was just lazy like me and just pins without changing the comments. Or, maybe it's just a routine disclaimer on all of their pins... Anyhoo, you're right, I do like you...

  2. I think it's some macho man guy that pinned that and doesn't want anyone thinking anything less of his machoness for liking a "girly" craft website. So he just wanted to leave a disclaimer... just in case;) LOL!

Yes, I have seen some unnecessary a comment or two left for pins from my site and it has bothered me. I have pinned things where I don't like everything about the project and just certain parts/ideas about it, but I would never reveal that to the world because I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I think it's just proper etiquette. I just wonder if other pinners realize that the original source will see their comments. I guess we just have to learn to ignore and not let those things bother us. But I do think Pinterest should have a feature that offers the option to make your comments private. There's no need for us to know everyone's thoughts.

  3. HAHAHA! That is the most ridiculous thing Ive ever seen. Luckily no one pins from my site--so I dont have to deal with those kinds of weirdos. But yep--I like you!

  4. Just so you know, since this isn't always the case, just 'cause I'm commenting on this doesn't mean I like you.

I mean, I do... but the comment doesn't make it that way. :)

  5. Clearly that individual has no taste.

But I admit, I have a board called, "Pins I've attempted on my own," where I describe my experience replicating the pin. In some cases, like the eggs that exploded when I tried to "hard boil" them in my oven, I have not been too complimentary... ;)

    1. I sometimes do that too, Elena. I like to write a little note to myself in the recipes that I try sometimes. :) Megan

  7. Oh that's just yuck. I'm afraid to look at mine. Just remember all the good things you said to me a couple weeks ago and remember that about yourself too. I think my next craft project will be "comment blinders".

  8. That's the strangest thing I have ever heard. I wonder what provoked that description. I love you girl! I check often to see what people say. It's pretty fun. :) Sorry I missed this post earlier today.

  9. Strangely enough...when you open yourself up to the worldwide web, you never know who is going to show up or what they are going to say! I happen to love stopping by...so don't listen to the crazies, just keep on doing your thing! Enjoy your day:)

  12. Ugh. I can't stand some of the snarkiness that the internet makes way too easy. I haven't had a weird Pinterest comment, but Hometalk featured one of my projects on their Facebook page and some trolls came out. I will never understand anyone's need to be critical and rude.

That said, I am loving your blog more and more every time I visit. So glad you found my blog and commented! :)

  15. I check what gets pinned on a bi-weekly basis, too. Sometimes I get nothing new pinned. Did you know when you have a blogspot address, you have to check the .com and the .ca pinterest pages. Depending where people are from, they will see your blog either as a dot com or dot ca, so check the dot ca one, you might find some new interesting comments!

And why the heck would someone write that as a pin description? Geez.

  16. I like you.. I like you! Sometimes people are MEAN! I think you're awesome.. so if they have mean things to say send em over to me and I'll handle it!
Besides if they say it anonymously .. who cares.. they aren't even man enough to claim it!
    he he he!

  17. What a stupid pin statement that was. I don't know that I want to read the ones from any pins I have, I would probably be sad there are just as many idiots in the blog world as in real life.
