I've decided to tackle another USA quilt.
this time, instead of hand appliqueing each state, I want to embroider each state.
Interesting in joining me?
Find a map you like. I found mine from Mr. Printable. Import your map into Block Poster. Block Posters allows you to enlarge an image to poster size and print it out.
Tape the pages together, so it maintains its form.
Lay at least a yard of fabric over the map and pin it into place so it won't move.
Using a water soluable pen, trace the outline of each state and the state's name onto your fabric
And, then start embroidering.
I used a stem stitch for the names of the states and the gray border outlining the outside of each states lines. For the inside boarder of the states, I used a back stitch.
This is what I'll be doing during my spring break. What about you?
It's going to be fabulous I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a spring break, but Rob does so hopefully he's cabinet building. ;)
You had me at embroider :) So far, I've spent Spring Break housebound with strep throat infested children! This, by far, looks like more fun!
ReplyDeleteNow this one looks like something I could actually do. Neat idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Erin. It really isn't that hard. You should give it a try!
Deleteholy cow! really?? i might start small and do texas - does that count?
ReplyDeletei cant wait to see it
Great idea to keep you busy!! looks like a fun project for sure
ReplyDeleteOh that looks awesome! I can't wait to see the end result. My plans for spring break is spring cleaning...haven't started yet but that's the plan. :)
ReplyDeleteHoly Moly! That is some impressive stitchmanship! It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I can't believe how amazing your embroidering is. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome Amy. Also thanks so much on the info about the block poster I have a few things I could use that for!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the next phase :)
Wow! That's very impressive! I've always wanted to embroider, but haven't ever given it a go. Also, thanks for the tips on Mr. Printable and Block Poster. I can see myself using both of those in the very near future!
ReplyDeleteAmy - this is awesome! Are you going to add a heart on there for your hometown. You could embroider single states as well and sell them on Etsy, customizing them with a heart to mark the city where someone lives. Now I'm thinking up business plans for you ;-).
ReplyDeleteYou are going to rock the states with this!

ReplyDeleteCUTE Amy! What a wonderful idea! I love it and can't wait to see the finished quilt :)
ReplyDeleteYour USA quilt is my favorite-BEAUTIFUL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea for a quilt! I love your appliqued USA quilt, and an embroidered USA sounds like a wonderful project, too. Thanks for the tips on how to enlarge a design - I've never tried that, but that's so great to know and opens up a lot of creative quilting possibilities! I'll be pinning. ♥
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm seriously impressed with your talent! I just don't have the patience for a project like this ...

ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteWhen I clicked the word "map," I noticed several comments to that link regarding PDF and jpeg conversion difficulties, etc. Can you share further details regarding how you printed this after purchasing it from mrprintables?
Thank you!
