This Is Me - My Clothes

It's fall y'all.

The leafs are changing colors and falling.  The days are growing shorter and the temperatures are dropping.

Though part of who I am involves heels...

Tis the season for boots.

The boots are a rare purchase from an actual retail store.

The rest of my wardrobe is mostly thrift store finds.  I love the hunt of discovering unique and frugal finds.

Where once upon a time, I used to dress for a corporate lifestyle and I struggled to feel comfortable in casual outfits.  The life that I am living now, is all about casual outfits.

A sweater and a pair of jeans is how you'll find me scouring booths at a flea market.

A pair of jeans, thick chunky brown leather belt and flannel shirt is my typical pick Grace up from school outfit.

We had our first parent teacher conference a week ago.  Part of who I am is someone who gets anxious over things like doctor's appointments and, apparently, parent teacher conferences.  When I get nervous, I will typically change my clothes at least 4 or 5 times.  I prefer to wear something 'nicer' when I am nervous.  And, I will typically fret over my hair, fluff, spray with hair spray and repeat until my hair practically needs it's own zip code.

Leggings, a short sleeve dress and a long sleeve black shirt with a tie front closure is how I nervously marched off to meet Grace's teacher.  *Despite breaking out in hives during the conference, it went incredibly well and as I should have known all along, Grace is doing wonderfully.

So, this is me.

Where I once worked...I now work hard at being a full time mom.  Where I once wore dresses...I now wear jeans and run around the park playing tag with my sweet daughter.

This is me.

I'd love for you to come back tomorrow and link up the story your clothes tell about you.

This is Me and What I Wear

The self portrait challenge continues.  The optional theme for October...clothes.

I think just as much as your house represents who you are, your clothes do the same.  Clothes allow you to express yourself and have a story.

Maybe you have a pair of pants splattered in different colored paint that represent the creative projects you've completed over the years (Tuula).  Maybe you like to wear a worn flannel shirt that used to be your dad's.  Maybe your clothes are covered in spit up...because you are the loving mom of a sweet little bundle of joy.

Whatever your story, share it in a self portrait.

This is Me.

The optional self portrait theme for September was sharing your story, what is going on in your life, through a self portrait.

For any of you following me on Facebook, you'll know that my *story* involves an adorable but mischievous dog, Riley.

Last night, she was sprayed by a skunk for the second time in her life.

So, I sit here, later than usual, writing this post because I am the kind of blogger that often waits until the last minute to write posts...and I am the type of person that has a dog that attracts skunks and I am the type of person that is convinced I now smell like skunk because 'THIS IS ME'  (covered in a hydrogen peroxide, baking soda paste, after a skunky wet dog has just given a good shake - sigh).

So, come out from behind the camera and show me who YOU are.

Sunflowers and Memories

Life can get busy and as a result, sometimes, it's easy to forget about the things that really matter.

These are the times you just want to slow down for a minute, take stock of life and what really matters and smell the roses...or in this case the sunflowers.

Sometimes, you just need to enjoy the day...

and create some happiness and memories in the process.

Sometimes, you just need to take some time and refocus on what really matters.

Hoping you've had your share of happiness and good memories this past month and that you might have captured some of it in pictures.  If so, make sure you come back tomorrow and share your own story in the 'This is Me' self portrait link party.

Say Cheese

This past month has been a big month for me.

I'm slowly learning how to let go, just a little bit, as I send Grace off to kindergarten.

Grace is enjoying herself.  She comes home every day sharing her adventures and all the new things she is learning.

When I see her at pick up, my heart fills with even more love for her.  I feel a new appreciation for the time we do have together.

And, when she asks for a couple extra minutes of snuggling before bed, I relish the extra time.

So, this month, get in front of the camera and share you own story...whatever it might be.

While Wearing Heels

Come back Friday September 27th and share your own story in self portrait form.

This is Me August Self Portrait Link Party

The optional self portrait theme for August was recreating a picture you love.

For me, I recreated a picture I loved of my Grandma cooking in the kitchen.

Last month, the theme was 'the great outdoors'.

Who wouldn't like spending some time in the great outdoors riding a swan or a flamingo?

Rea from Home 4 for Sweet Home

The best part of spending time outside, for me, is spending it with my family (especially Grace).  This picture from Janiene at A Bunch of Bishops captured such a sweet moment with her daughter.

And, the only thing better than spending time outside with family (while riding a swan) is spending time with family outside while on vacation!

So, now it's your turn, come out from behind the camera and share your self portraits.
While Wearing Heels

Let's get this party started...here are our linky rules:
  • There will be a link up here on the last Friday of every month this year, and the linky tool will remain open to your submissions until the last Friday of the next month.
  • Please link back to the permalink for your *This Is ME* blog post or flickr image, not just the general url for your blog or flickr stream.
  • Linked entries must be to a blog post or flickr image of your recent self-portraits, not just any old photo. Your photo does not have to relate to the optional monthly theme, but it does need to be a self-portrait.
  • Please do link back here to my blog either through a text link, or with my button found below to help encourage others to participate and grow our community.
  • And most importantly, be the encouragement you hope to receive and help build our self-portrait community! Please try to visit a few of the links of your fellow *This Is ME* participants and leave a nice comment--it only takes a few minutes and you may be inspired by what you see.
Well, that's it...now get linking everyone! I'll see you back here on Friday, August 2nd, for our August theme announcement, but in the meantime, keep showing us your stuff in the flickr pool.

This is Me - August Self Portrait Theme Reveal

The Self Portrait theme for the month of July is...

While Wearing Heels

To take a picture you love and try and recreate it.

My two favorite pictures taken since I started this self portrait challenge were inspired by photos I've pinned in my original photography board on pinterest.

Of course, your inspiration can also come from a family picture you love, a painting, an advertisement...anything at all.

For me, there is a picture of my grandma that I love, doing what she did best, cooking for the masses (she raised 7 kids!).  A picture, I've been told she hated.  Apparently, she hated being in pictures too.

Ironically, that picture she hated is one that I love.  It embodies so much of what I remember about her.  No one that came to her house ever left hungry.  Even on a budget, she always seemed to be able to feed the masses.

That picture also reminds me that I even though I am still critical of most of the pictures I am in, they shouldn't just be deleted.  Those pictures still tell a story, they still represent a piece of who I am.  Those pictures I hate, could one day become a picture loved by someone else.

So...

Anytime I am in the kitchen, I think of my Grandma and that picture AND I decided to try and capture my own essence in a similar picture.

The task 'recreating a picture you love' was provided for inspiration but the theme is optionalAll self portraits are welcome.  Feel free to use one of our previous themes (simple moments, reflections, looking down, adding a quote) or come up with a new theme of your own.

The 'Great Outdoors' July linky party is still open, so if you want to post a link you still have time.  If you haven't already, please go check out the brave women that joined the challenge to show them your support and encouragement.

Don't forget, non bloggers can share their self portrait pictures in the flickr pool OR add your self portrait via instagram.

I'll see you at the end of the month, Friday, August 30th, to see your latest self portraits.

Self Portraits - The Great Outdoors

The self portrait theme for July's link party (which starts tomorrow!) is the great outdoors.

This summer, for the first time, I feel as if life is going by fast and time is passing quickly.  My sweet girl turned 5.

At the end of summer, she'll be going off to kindergarten.

Kindergarten!

More of her 'first' will be experienced without me.

So, when Grace wants to play fairy,

I'll proudly and happily put on a pair of wings and savor this time with her (even with a crazy dog photo bombing the picture).

I am making more of an effort to get in front of the camera and capture these moments with Grace.  I still don't like having my picture taken but I've realized, it's not about me.

This self portrait challenge, for me, is about Grace.  I want her to have plenty of pictures, that will trigger these memories of happy moments I cherished spending with her.   Life passes quickly.

Even if you decide not to join the self portrait challenge, get in front of that camera and capture some of the moments you are making with those you love.

While Wearing Heels

Hope you see you back tomorrow.  Looking forward to seeing your self portraits.
