You'll need the following supplies:
Distressed piece of wood
Doll Rod
String
Material for the sails and the flag
Needle and thread
Glue
*Optional: Paint to add detail to the sail
Let's get started!
Drill a hole into your rustic piece of wood and insert your doll rod.
Cut out 2 sails. Judge the size based on the length of your doll rod and the width of your piece of rustic wood. *Optional: you can sew the edges of your sails for a more finished look.
I wanted to give my sails some character so I grabbed blue acrylic paint {the cheap kind, nothing fancy, just what I had on hand} and added stripes.
Insert your eyelets centered on each end of your rustic piece off wood and begin to affix the sails. With a needle and thread, sew through your sail and through your eyelets several times to make sure they are securely attached. When attaching the top and inside bottom of the sails, go through the sail and wrap around the doll rod.
I decided to add a red flag to my sailboat. I cut out a thin flag shaped strip of red and attached it with glue. I wish I would have made my doll rod slightly taller or my sails slightly shorter but I think it still works.
And now, we're ready to sail away OR put it on display to admire.
