Barn Wood Bunnies

Not every bunny can be the Easter bunny.

Some bunnies have a less than famous story, perhaps a more rustic story.  This bunny, well, he has a barn wood story.

His story started in a pile that looked like this.

Who knew, in that pile of barn wood, there would be a lucky rabbit's foot.

Who knew that those barn wood nails, once removed, would make the perfect bunny eye.

Who knew that every time I turned around, these bunnies would be multipling...like rabbits :)

Not every bunny can be the Easter bunny but a bunny can still dream.

This barn wood bunny is off to deliver some eggs to my Etsy shop, while he waits for someone to buy him.

While Wearing Heels Etsy Update

The While Wearing Heels Etsy shop, admittedly, had been ignored the past few months.  The virtual shelves grew dusty and were sadly empty.

The woodaholic (Mr. While Wearing Heels) decided to do something about it.  To the shed he escaped where he raided our seemingly endless supply of barn wood.

Barn wood trees began sprouting up...

some covered with a dusting of snow.

Barn wood frames were made...

and I was left to paper piece a Union Jack flag to fill it.

Architectural pieces...

and propellers were mounted for display.

The While Wearing Heels Etsy shop no longer looks like it has been abandoned.  The shelves are stocked and dusted.

Now the only thing that needs dusting, is the car.

No telling what the woodaholic will be up to next.

Hand Embroidered USA Quilt - Big Reveal

Finally, the hand embroidered USA is finished.

AND...has beautifully been turned into a quilt by none other than the Queen of Quilts herself, my mom.

In her very capable hands and her professional long arm quilting machine, she stipple quilted a tight and detailed free motion design...

around the entire United States, into each detailed groove of each detailed state.

When you turn the quilt over, you can appreciate the detail she was able to achieve.

She even precisely quilted around each of the states.

And, again, I am left in awe that the Queen of Quilts was able to take my hand embroidered USA...

And turn it into another beautiful quilt.

Yes, another...this is my second USA quilt.

We shall see if I get inspired to make a 3rd next year.

Both USA Quilts are for sales in the While Wearing Heels Etsy shop, along with other handcrafted items.

Salvaged Architectural Display Pieces

Looking to add a bit of character and style to your home decor, why not make some architectural display pieces.

This easy to follow tutorial will help you take scrap pieces of architectural pieces and turn them into beautifully mounted one of a kind home decor.

First, find yourself some architectural pieces with interesting designs.  The flea market is a great place to find reasonably priced architectural pieces.

Depending on the size you wish to display, you may want to cut salvaged pieces of furniture.

To build your base, cut two separate square pieces of scrap wood 1/4 inch thick by two to three inches wide making the top piece smaller than the bottom and glue together.

Drill a hole in the center of the base.  Insert a steel or brass rod,  Drill a hole centered into the bottom of your architectural piece.  Connect the base with the salvaged piece.

Depending on the architectural piece, you may even opt to add an accent piece to finish the design.  Additional finishing pieces can be wood glued to the original piece.

The piece and base can be painted to match with a matte finish paint with some sanding for weathering.

When completed, display and admire.

For those of you admiring these architectural display pieces, there are variety for sale in the While Wearing Heels Etsy Shop.

Woodaholic

My name is Amy and I am married to a woodaholic.

A woodaholic has a stash of barn wood and will often pick up random pieces of wood while on a walk just because.

A woodaholic will spot a 300 pound tree root in the water and decide to risk life and limb to retrieve it...

and then haul it up 50 stairs to dry land.  All because it has the potential to become a coffee table.

I have learned not to doubt the visions of my woodaholic because typically what results from his wood obsession is something that had been slyly hiding.

That's the thing with woodaholics, they can cleverly coax things out of what looks like an ordinary piece of wood.

Sometimes, it's almost as if he has just pulled a rabbit out of his hat, when I see his latest creations.

Other times, I realize,

a woodaholic can refine his obsession into a restoration hardware-esque vision.

My woodaholic has taken over the While Wearing Heels Etsy Shop...where you can find each of these creations for sale.

And, I realize, by allowing all of this, I am merely enabling my woodaholic.

What Every 5 Year Old Needs, Besides for a Dog

I'm no longer in the 'attending weddings' circuits, I have now found my social calendar filling up with invitations to 5th birthday parties.

The most recent 5th birthday party we attended had a ballerina tea party theme.

Fortunately, we know a thing or two about tea parties and being a ballerina.

The  birthday girl, whom we've entertained for the occasional play date or two, is an admirer of Riley {I overheard her whisper sweetly in Riley's ear, 'I love you, Riley'}.  I jokingly suggested to Grace {who is not so much an admirer of Riley} that we give Riley as a birthday gift.

Thankfully, Grace did not take my suggestion seriously because there is no way Riley would have fit into this bag {though, I am sure a few of her dog hairs did}.

So, in addition to a few store bought items (summer jammies and a puzzle for those of you who are curious), I included something homemade.

What does every 5 year old need, besides for a dog?  A tooth fairy pillow, of course.

Want a tooth fairy pillow of your own?  Invite me to your birthday party or head over to my Etsy shop.
