I heart fake food - Felt Sugar Cookie Tutorial

Believe it or not, I still heart fake food.  And, sometimes, felt fruits and veggies just aren't enough.  I crave felt sugar too.

No fake kitchen is complete without a set of sugar cookies.  With this easy to follow tutorial, your little baker will have so much fun whipping up their own batch of felt sugar cookies.

Felt sugar cookies are also the perfect accompaniment for any tea party.

To make your own zero calorie sugar cookies, grab the following supplies:

To make the your cookie dough and cookie base:

Start by tracing your cookie cutter pattern onto the tan felt/cookie dough.  Trace along the outside of the cookie cutter.  Using a pair of sharp scissors, cut out your cookie shape.

*Optional.  Felt tends to stretch the more you use it.  To give the felt more durability, I layered another layer of tan felt beneath the layer I cut the cookie shapes out of.  I applied a little bit of glue around the shape outline and pressed it into place onto the solid piece of felt.  Sew around the perimeter of the dough.  Cut the shape out of the solid layer of felt, using the top layer as an outline.  These shapes were not kept intact as I cut them out.

**If you opt to add an extra layer to cookie dough, you may want to cut add a second layer to the cut out cookie shape so it will fit back inside of the dough evenly.

To make the icing.

Select the color icing you want to use.  Again, use the cookie cutter as the pattern, this time tracing from inside the cookie cutter.  Cut out enough to cover all your cookies.

Optional:  To embellish your cookies with 'sprinkles', using a needle and thread, sew beads onto the 'icing'.

If you have extra sprinkles, you can fill up an empty sprinkle container.

Glutton free, calorie free felt sugar cookies.

Package these homemade felt sugar cookies up with a rolling pin, measuring cups, measuring spoons, recipe cards and extra sprinkles and you have a great gift.

A gift that encourages imaginative play.

The inner baker is bound to come out in anyone who plays with these cookies.

Felt sugar cookies...

the perfect addition to any play kitchen.

Plant Stand Turned Farmers Market

A few weeks before Grace's garden themed birthday party, I spotted an abandoned plant stand on the side of the road.

As I skidded to a stop, I noticed a man {at the home where the abandoned plant stand lay neglected and lonely}.  Bolder than I normally would be, I asked him if he was really giving such a treasure away.

Not only did he nod his head in agreement BUT he then offered to load it into my car.

There, at home, it proudly sat.  It waited for the mister to come home and welcome it into our collection of useful things.  I waited for the mister to come home and praise my resourcefulness.

Both the plant stand and I were disappointed in the mister's reaction.  He actually said, um...I don't understand what you plan on doing with it.

IT!  He called this planters stand 'it'.

Is that what I said when he rescued this tree stump from a lake and needed to bring it home with us?

Is that what I say when I go to load groceries into the back of the car and I find these hidden beneath a blanket?

Does he not remember what happened when I came home with this $3.99 chair from Goodwill?

That plant stand was going to serve a higher purpose.

That plant stand was being invited to a little girl's garden party...

Instead of holding blossoming flowers, this plant stand was filled with garden fresh {felt} fruits and vegetables.

That plant stand transformed into a farmer's market.

A farmer's market ready for 14 little girls to use their imaginations and create memories with.

In the end, the mister realized that he was wrong.  That plant stand served a purpose, it made 14 little girls happy and 1 big girl happy {happy to be right again!}.

No Dirt Garden

Gardening is great...if it weren't for the dirt.  Unfortunately, Grace feels the same.

So, for those that love gardening but don't love to get dirty, this no dirt garden is just as much fun.

Plant some felt veggies in your no dirt garden.  And, then...

Watch the smile on your gardener's face as they pull and pluck the bounty from the garden without fretting over getting dirty.

So, what are you waiting for...go plant your no dirt garden.  You won't even have to pull any weeds!

Superhero Capes

Into everyone's life a little rain must fall.

Sometimes, that rain must fall when you've promised a super fun outdoor play date.

Sigh.

Fortunately, I have superhero powers.  My powers happen to be battling rainy day boredom.  My superhero gadgets include a sewing machine, fabric, felt and glue.

BAM!

Bored little girl, turned super girl.

POW!!!

The world is now safer with 2 new super girls, ready to use their super imaginations and fight crime.

As I sewed the capes at the speed of lightening...

adding rosettes along the back collar...

each super girl worked on the emblem for their capes.

Super Grace.

Super powers include but are not limited to; the ability to sense if any of her hundreds of stuffed animals have made it into the donation pile, the ability to turn a clean room into a messy room in the blink of an eye, the ability to melt my heart with her spontaneous declarations of love.

Her Kryptinote, getting her hair brushed...resulting in complete immobility and, often times, fits of crying.

With a sink full of dishes, I wish my super powers included the ability to get the dishes cleaned without lifting a finger.

But wait...I just remembered, I do have super powers of persuasion.

Without lifting a finger, I've convinced my handsome husband to do the dishes.

I'd say, despite the rain, this has been a super day.

Felt Peeps Finger Puppet Tutorial

Peeps.  They aren't just for Easter anymore.

Learn to make these colorful felt Peeps finger puppets with this easy to follow tutorial.  Throw them in an Easter basket or make them just for fun.

Grab some Peep colored felts.  Stick with the standard yellow or branch out with some fun colors.

Using this Peep pattern (found below):
Cut 2 Peeps per each 1 finger puppet you want to make.

Find coordinating colored thread and a needle (or use glue if you want to attempt a no-sew option)

And sew the two Peep sections together.  Remember to leave the base of your Peep unsewn.

Get some brown paint (any kind will do) and a pencil with an eraser.

Dab your eraser into the brown paint and then dab onto the front of your Peeps to make the eyes and nose.

Once dried, enjoy your new Peeps finger puppet.

The question is, to Peep or not to Peep...I think it's obvious what the answer should be.

To Peep, of course.
