Goodwill Roundup

It's that time of month where I reveal my Goodwill finds from the past month and you decide if an intervention is necessary.

The month, you might be surprised at the restraint I showed.

Remember when I mentioned I can pass up anything that is Tiffany Blue?  The same can be said of globes.  For $3.99, this globe needed to do little else to convince me to put it into my shopping cart and take it home.

One reason I showed some restraint this month was due to being preoccupied with Grace's preschool Fall Party.  Since I had goodie bags for her classmates, I thought I should also give something to her teachers.  If you ever need baskets, go to Goodwill.  I scored these 2 baskets for $3 and filled them with my father in-laws gourds.  Not a bad teacher's gift for a $3 investment, right?

For $3.99, I bought this monkey costume...

And turned it into a pig costume

I found this made in Italy chalkboard for .99 cents.  I think I might use it for a prop in pictures.

Did I mention if you need baskets to check out Goodwill?  I wanted a basket to store my blankets in and for $2.99, this was perfect.

I've been fairly reasonable so far, right?

Well, this is where you may need to step in.

For .99 cents, I bought this brand new sweet 6 month old outfit.  Of course, Grace will never be able to squeeze into it but it was too cute to pass up and did I mention, it was only a dollar?

I promise, for the rest of this post, my senses returned and I continued to make reasonable purchases.

I added a few glass jars to my collection.  This jar was .99 cents.  For now, I put my extra lavender from my DIY lavender sachets inside.

The glass jar with the lid below was also .99 cents.  I filled it with a succulent and added it to my greenhouse window.

I guess, the key, for me, in showing thrift shopping restraint is to plan more preschool parties and make more pig costumes.

Until next month, happy thrifting.

Goodwill Hunting Roundup

Before I showcase my Goodwill finds from the past month, I have a few confessions.

1. Even a veteran Goodwill shopper can be overwhelmed. I had talked my husband into taking me to a bigger Goodwill one Saturday morning. This particular trip left me shell shocked. Had it been my first trip to Goodwill, I would have sworn it off. If you like crowds and chaos, weekend Goodwill shopping is for you. If you like to take your time and peruse the aisles {like this girl}, head to Goodwill either during the day or in the evening.

2. Prices can be inconsistent. This probably depends on who is in the mysterious backroom, going through the latest donations, pricing the items. Do you remember the amazing globe I found last month for $3.99? Well, this month I spotted another globe.

The big difference between my globe and this globe...the price. This globe, was $12.99 {WHAT!!!}. I am so glad I picked up my {nicer} $3.99 globe last month.

So moving on to what I did buy...

A red polka dot summer dress for $4.99 despite the fact that not one but two {yes 2} people asked me if it was a dress for Grace. Um, no, it's not for a 3 year old, clearly it's for me :)

Brand new wool cable knit fingerless gloves,Nordstrom ticket price $10.99, Goodwill price $1.99.  Perhaps in a former life I used to be a hobo because I am a sucker for fingerless gloves.

A white bebe tote for $3.99.  I love the color wheel vibe it has.  Don't you think it just screams summer?

MISSONI for Target Exploded Floral Baby Crib Quilt brand new still in the packaging for $9.99.  Definitely more than I would typically spend at Goodwill on one item BUT as soon as I did a quick search and saw this same quilt being sold on Ebay for $70 on up, I decided to splurge and buy it.

Don't worry, I didn't forget about Grace.  As soon as I spotted this Mini Boden furry vest for $2.99, I couldn't get it in my cart fast enough.  Am I the only one that thinks this is adorable?  I might be, my husband is definitely not a fan but I rarely look to him for fashion advice.

Babo an Ugly doll for .50 cents, again, with the tags still attached.  Can you believe they sell this at Nordstrom for $12?  I'm in for .50 cents, not so sure about $12.

My love for thrifting must be infectious because on my parents last visit, they wanted to visit my Goodwill.  My dad ended up finding a  brand new, with tags, Vulcan Insulated Cooler Tote with Propane Grill and Grill Tools Inside for $9.99.  It is currently for sale at Brookstone for over $200.  My dad, examined every inch of the bag and its content in the aisle.  I could see people swarming, feigning interest in something nearby, hoping he would forgo his find so they could snatch it up.

I even have my sister sharing her finds with me now.  She bought a Mr. Barbeque 2089 Platinum Prestige 20 Piece All Stainless Steel Tool Set, still in the package for $9.99.  This set is being sold by Amazon for $85. She also found new, never worn slippers for her husband for $3.49.

I hope I've inspired more than just my own family to check out your local thrift store or Goodwill. You never know what you'll find so get out there and check them out!

Happy Thrifting.

Goodwill Hunting Roundup

Yes, it's time again for another Goodwill Hunting Roundup. I couldn't be happier with the deals I found this month. You never know what you are going to find and that's what keeps me going back.

When I saw this globe, I couldn't get it in my shopping cart quick enough. I was in disbelief that no one had grabbed it before I had a chance. This globe is in perfect condition and has a solid wood base. Are you ready for this, I paid $3.99 for it.

My husband has developed an interest in English pond boats. He found a few on Ebay that are admittedly very cool. So, when I saw this mini knock off of an English pond boat for $1.99, I thought I might win a few brownie points and impress my husband with my find.

For $2.99, this metal gardening basket brought a huge smile to my face. I have been hoping to stumble upon one of these. Thanks to pinterest, I've been inspired to, hopefully, hang this in my kitchen and fill it with fresh fruit.

When I saw this adorable houndstooth mod dress for $1.99 {it was originally $3.99 but it was orange tag day SO it was half off}, I decided it would be an adorable addition to Grace's wardrobe.

This chair is ah-mazing. I spied someone walking around contemplating buying it, which, of course, made me want it even more. As soon as I saw they were going to pass up this beautiful chair, I claimed it for my own for $4.99.

I picked up this little bird for .99 cents and this picture frame for .49 cents AND they just so happen to be a nice addition for Valentines.

I am a sucker for anything white that can be added to my kitchen. This fluted dish was only $1.99. It was too pretty to pass up, plus it makes my sugar cookies look even more tempting.

Ok, confession time, I am a HUGE fan of American Pickers. They are always taking about finding things that are 'a piece of Americana' SO when I found a vintage Morton Salt trivet for .49 cents I decided it was a piece of Americana I needed to own.

I scour the toy/game aisle each trip I make to Goodwill. This past month, I actually bought Grace her first Ken doll for .99 cents {no picture, sorry}. All the Barbies were so excited, they found themselves fighting over who was going to marry him.

I also found a set of Circus Animal Lacing Cards for $1.99. They have a cool, vintage feel to them. It won the Oppenheim best toy award {bonus!}. What made it an even better find, it was in perfect condition.

Last but certainly not least. I had been thinking about buying an overhead projector. I have a growing list of overhead projector projects. I wasn't sure I wanted to invest $30 in a projector {which seems to be on average how much they run at a thrift store}. Lo and behold, this Elmo projector was listed for $24.99 BUT I stumbled upon it on a day when all pink tags were half off SO for $12.50 it was too good to pass up. I can't wait to start creating!

If you still haven't hit your local Goodwill {or even if you have and were hoping for a few new tips}, head over to Thrifty Like Me {someone equally as excited about thrifting as I am} to read her 7 tips for scoring at Goodwill. Then head out to Goodwill and score some good deals for yourself.

Happy thrifting!
