Barbie Ornament

In the ornament making sweat shop, I have admittedly been in this past month, I couldn't forget about making a special ornament for Grace.

While I make ornaments, I often multi-task by playing Barbies with Grace.  It seemed only fitting, Grace's ornament be a Barbie ornament.

Supplies Needed:
Felt
Batting or extra layer of felt {to fill your ornament with}
Black Embroidery Thread and Needle
Ribbon {for the ornament loop}
Water Soluble pen
And, the Barbie pattern,  which I had pinned from Frou Frou by Heathersue but no longer is up on her site, SO if you want to make one of your own, you can use the pattern I pinned.

Begin by tracing the Barbie pattern onto your felt.

Using a stem stitch, embroider along the outline.

On the back of this ornament, I decided to embroider Grace's name with a TM and the date.  I wanted it to have a Barbie like feel to how I personalized it.  This is optional, the ornament is just as cute without anything on the back.

When you have finished your embroidery, cut your Barbie out.  I used a circle shape.  Cut the back out in the same size and the batting or extra layer of felt out in a slightly smaller circle.

All that is left to do is assemble your ornament.  Fold your ribbon over into a loop, apply a generous layer of glue above the ribbon loop and below it as well as around the perimeter of the circle.

Place the batting or extra layer of felt down in the center of the ornament, making sure there is still plenty of glue left around to attach the top layer.

Attach the top layer, let dry and then admire on your tree.

Bat Signal Ornament

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na,, na, na, na, na, Batman!

When this bat signal goes up, this superhero {my nephew} will be ready to fight crime.

If you want to make the superhero in your life their own bat signal gather the following supplies:

Black Felt, Yellow Felt, Tacky Glue, Scissors,  2 1/2 inches of ribbon
* Optional: Black Embroidery Thread

Using this pattern:

Cut 2 ovals out of the yellow felt and cut the bat out of black felt.

Apply tacky glue around the perimeter of the bat and gently apply it to one of the yellow ovals.

*Optional:  Embroider the name and date on the back of the ornament.  By doing this, you also have the option of using it as a gift tag for the top of a present.

Fold your ribbon in half {I added a French knot to secure the ribbon to the back oval, though optional, this will provide another measure of guaranteeing the ribbon will stay affixed to the ornament}.  Apply tacky glue around the perimeter of the back oval, under and over the ribbon and across the middle, gently attach the bat signal.

Pow!  Bam!  Zzzap!  Done.

Holy felt ornament Batman!

Jack Skellington Ornaments

Christmas post?  Halloween post?  Maybe both?

My sister LOVES Nightmare Before Christmas...so much so that The Nightmare Before Christmas decal adorns her car.

She had been dropping hints that she wanted a Jack Skellington ornament and if you know my sister, you know *hints* really translates into *demands*.

I researched Jack Skellington {I'll be disowned when I admit, I haven't seen this movie} and found that there is a happy Jack and a mean Jack SO I decided to make both and share the tutorial with other Nightmare Before Christmas fans.

Happy Jack Skellington

Supplies:  Black Felt {for the back}, White Felt {for the face}, Black Ribbon {to hang your ornament}, Black Thread and Needle.

Satin stitch the eyes horizontally.  When the eye is filled in with the satin stitch, outline the eye using a stem stitch.  The mouth , nostrils and lines by the eyes are also completed using a stem stitch.  The stitch through the mouth is a straight stitch.

When the embroidery is complete, glue the white front to the black back, sandwiching the looped ribbon in between.

Mayor: How horrible our Christmas will be!
Jack Skellington: *No.*
[the Mayor switches to his upset face]
Jack Skellington: How *jolly*!
Mayor: Oh. How *jolly* our Christmas will be.

May you all have a *jolly* Christmas.

'The Force is Strong' with these ornaments

Luke, come to the Dark Side of the Christmas Tree.

What Star Wars fan wouldn't love their own Darth Vader or Boba Fett ornament, hand made by you?

To make this embroidered felt Darth Vader ornament...

Supplies:  black felt, white and black embroidery thread, needle and some ribbon

Directions:  Cut the helmet out of 2 pieces of black felt, using the pattern below. With white embroidery thread, begin to embroider Darth Vader's mask onto one piece of the black felt. When you have completed all the embroidery, do a simple running stitch, with black thread, to attach the back to the front and enclose a ribbon loop at the top.

Then add your ornament/gift tag to the top of a present. I, admittedly, am not familiar with Darth Vader but something tells me, he might not appreciate the ribbon accessory.

To make a Boba Fett felt ornament...

Supplies: green, orange, black and charcoal felt {I haven't ventured into expensive felts, I buy all my colors from Joann Fabrics}, some crafting glue, ribbon {for hanging}, some green, yellow and black embroidery thread and needle.

Directions:  Using the pattern above, cut all your pieces out of felt. I opted to embroider the eyes {in black} and the scratch marks {in yellow}.

Glue the mask pieces of felt onto the front of Boba Fett. The cream and black, for the antenna should be added to the back piece.  When you have completed your embroidery and your glue has dried, do a running stitch with your green thread to secure the back to the front and also enclose the ribbon loop.

These ornaments can also double as gift tags, simply embroider the name on the back of the ornament...

And give them to the Star Wars lovers in your life.

May the force be with you, should you attempt to make your own.

*Confession:  I've never even seen Star Wars before.  Shameful, I know...don't tell my nephews :)

Farmer's Market

Thanks to Ana White and her free and easy to follow farmer's market plans, we made Grace one of her own for her 2nd birthday. Of course, my husband took liberties with the design and made Grace's market bigger. Bigger is better right? That is, unless you have to fill it with fake foods :)

When we gave Grace her market, I had made roughly 40 felt fruits and veggies AND it barely made a dent. I swore I would never make another fake food again.  Never say never, right?

Along came my blog and the need to create posts SO I got to work making more fake foods and documenting the process.

Believe it or not, I still have a few more I heart fake food tutorials on my list to complete.

In the end, I guess I don't mind that I have been the sole worker in my 'I heart fake food' sweat shop, since Grace loves her one of a kind farmer's market.

Bonbon Break
