Fish Mobile Tutorial

This fish mobile tutorial is so easy, I guarantee if you attempt to make one yourself, you won't feel like a fish out of water.

To get started, gather the following supplies:

Using this pattern:

Cut 2 fish shapes our of the scrap fabric.  Place the shapes together, wrong sides together, right sides facing out.

Don't let this next step intimidate you, even though it will require using one of these...

Leaving about a 1/4 of an inch seam, sew around the perimeter of your fish.  Leave about an inch of the tail unsewn.

Fill your fish, from the opening you left, with fiberfill.

Either by hand or with the machine, sew the opening on the fish tail closed.

Sew a button into place for a fish eye.
*I added my button eye after, in order to give myself enough room for the sewing machine foot.

Continue these steps for the remaining fish.

Secure each fish onto your stick using a needle and thread.  Once in place, add a dab of glue to further secure it into place.

Tie some twine to each side of the stick.

Then, hang your fish mobile up.

There are plenty of fish in the sea, so why not make one of your own.

*Don't want to make one yourself?  This Fish Mobile is currently for sale in my Etsy shop.

  1. That is seriously cute! You should put some of those in your store. If I had a baby boy I would totally decorate my entire nursery around that mobile! (And I would buy it from you instead of make it... because of the scary machine... did you see my FB rant about sewing machines?)

  6. This is one of my favorite items you've made and that's saying a lot since I pretty much am in love with everything you create. I wish I was doing Jake's nursery all over again because this would for sure be hanging in his room. And where do you get all of your fun photo props. I can only imagine all the cool things in your house. Love your style!

  22. Super, super cute. It would be cute in a boy's room (or made in pink for a girl's room if she likes to fish) or given to a favorite fisherman. Or maybe at my cabin. I love it.
