Two Tip Thursday

Tip 1: Want to avoid the spills that come from squeezing a full juice box? Lift the flaps on the side of the juice box.

Instruct your child to hold the juice box by its ears. You'll have no more spills resulting from squeezing.

Tip 2: Want to stop your pot from boiling over, put a wooden spoon over it. I've heard this before but had to see for myself and it works.

And a bonus tip, if your dog should happen to eat a Bento Box Sushi Mold...

One tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide will induce vomiting. This tip is veterinarian approved {Thank goodness we have a vet in the family and on 24 hours a day call}.

Time to Polish the Silver

While hunting through Goodwill yesterday, I stumbled upon this very tarnished candy dish.

I have no silver to speak of so the idea of possibly collecting a few pieces seemed like a romantic notion. For $3.99, I decided to buy it.

I came home and search Pinterest for some tips on cleaning silver, hoping to find one that didn't require investing in special cleaner. I came across a tip from Little Blue Boo that called for baking soda, aluminum foil and hot water. There is an excellent step by step tutorial on her blog.

After soaking it for a few minutes, I could already tell a HUGE difference. I did need to use a little elbow grease as well...did you see how tarnished it was to begin with. In the end, I was amazed at the transformation. Can you believe the difference?

I love the little roses.

Now, I just need to decide what to do with it.

I just might end up having a very impressive collection of silver one day. Of course, I'll only pay a few dollars a piece for them, thank goodness for Goodwill!

Freezer burn be gone

We aren't big ice cream eaters in our house. I am more of a salty treat kind of a girl.

As an incentive or reward, we will treat Grace to the occasional ice cream or milk shake. The problem was, before we even made a dent in our ice cream container, it would be covered in freezer burn...YUCK!

I can't be the only one that has this problem, right?

In efforts to eliminate freezer burn and prolong the life of our ice cream, I put some wax paper over the top of the open ice cream container and then covered it with the lid of the container. We've had this container of ice cream for over 3 weeks and there isn't even a hint of freezer burn.

Success!

Take that freezer burn!
