Your weight is over. The question, what is she up to, using 2 rubber balls and a portable dustpan from the dollar store. The answer, making a barbell...of course!
Curious how I transformed my dollar store rubber balls and dustpan, keep on reading.
Get some liquid starch and lots of 1 inch wide strips of newspaper. Dip the strips of newspaper into the liquid starch and cover each rubber ball. Allow the newspaper strips to dry completely once applied {approximately 24 hours} and then add a new layer. You'll want 3-4 layers before you are ready to put your barbell together.
Yes, I realize, I duplicated a picture...that's what happens when you blog at nearly 11 at night. Cut a hole into the paper mache rubber ball approximately the size of the pole you plan on using.
Remove the dustpan from it's pole.
Insert the pole into the rubber balls, using more liquid starch and newspaper strips, attach the ball to the pole. When that has completely dried, wrap with electrical tape to fully secure the two together. Cover the newspaper with black paint. Decide how much weight you want to lift and paint on the pounds.
Yes, I am raising the world's strongest 4 year old.
So, was it worth the weight?
*My favorite guess, concerning what I was up to, came from No. 29 Design who thought I'd use these rubber balls and portable dustpan to whip up some fake food.
I'm glad the mystery is solved. My guess didn't make any sense unless you had penguins involved, too. It's best if you don't ask.

I know I'm behind in responding... but I LOVE this idea! It's hilariously fun!! Since you have a circus theme going on for Grace's bday.. I assume this is one of the props at the party:D Awesome picture prop!!
ReplyDeleteLove your take on this! I did a similar project for my daughter's 'superhero' birthday party a couple of years ago but used large styrofoam balls and a wooden dowel. You can see a photo of it in this post http://racksandmooby.blogspot.com/2010/12/superhero-batman-birthday-party-part-2.html
ReplyDeleteALthough mine was probably faster and easier, you're looks much more professional. LOL. :)
Cute! Great idea for parties! New follower from TGIF. Love for you to follow back when you get a chance ;)

ReplyDeleteHi! I love this, but I'm confused. What was the dustpan used for?
ReplyDeleteI removed the dustpan and used the pole that was attached for the barbell.
DeleteHi - so cute. i wanted to make one for my son's superhero birthday and i thought about styrofoam balls but they were 18.99 each at michaels! haha. i was wondering how you created the "hole" in the dollar store ball. did you leave the ball in there deflated? or were you able to squeeze it out somehow? thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteVery neat! I'm using painted styrofoam balls from the craft store for my son's party. They are only a few bucks at our craft store.
