Felt Woodland Ornament Tutorials

You can never have too many ornaments...or at least, that's what I tell myself as I become obsessed with making new ornaments. 

This was the case when I was inspired to make felt woodland (and other animal) ornaments for Grace's Christmas tree.

These sweet woodland ornaments are virtually no-sew, besides for their french knot snowflakes and embroidered accents like eyes and buttons.

Clever, right? 

and, I've decided to share the patterns with you!

To make your own Fox, use the pattern below...

You might not be excited to have a raccoon sneaking around your yard, digging through your garbage but somehow in felt form, I wouldn't mind seeing more.

To make a raccoon, use the pattern below...

Though, not woodland, Grace has a soft spot for pigs and so her woodland tree also has a pig.

To make your own pig, use the pattern below...

No forest is complete without a deer, or two.  For now, Grace's tree has one lonely doe.

To make your own deer, use the pattern below.  Add a flower or a scarf for an added embelishment.

Whooo would disagree...no woodland set is complete without an owl.

Let's not monkey around debating over what is a woodland creature and technically not.

And, a bit softer than the real thing, a hedgehog.

Grab some felt, a pair of scissors, some glue and some twine or ribbon for hanging and let your imagination guide you in making these sweet ornaments your own.

100 Year Old House - Back Deck

In preparation for the 'Summer Showcase of Homes', it seem only fitting I try and wrap up the tour of our 100 year old home.

One of the reasons we decide to buy our home was the screened in cedar back deck.

Ironically, though, for the past 6 years, we've barely used our back deck.   Distracted with renovations on the inside of our house, the deck was ignored...until this year.

This year, we invested in a new door.

And, we replaced the white ceiling fans with 2 new ceiling fans.

Before you start thinking we've gotten all fancy on you, what with buying things like ceiling fans and new doors, we still have plenty of thrifted, free, flea markets and even roadside rescue items.

Remember the chairs my husband found on the side of the road (read roadside rescue).

We used them on our back deck.

And, we (as in me) made some custom cushions for those chairs.

As well as a few pillows.

We added some flea market finds.

We hung some pictures and planted some flowers.

And, we hung some curtains in the 4 corners of the deck.

The curtains provided a coziness to the deck and also helped define the space. 

And here is the view from the other side of the deck.

Including some more whimsical decor like a bull dog bottle cap opener and some of the woodaholic's wood creations (shameless plug...similar wood creations for sale in the While Wearing Heels Etsy Shop).

And now, the back deck is no longer ignored, it's become our favorite place to spend our days and our nights.

Woodaholic

My name is Amy and I am married to a woodaholic.

A woodaholic has a stash of barn wood and will often pick up random pieces of wood while on a walk just because. 

A woodaholic will spot a 300 pound tree root in the water and decide to risk life and limb to retrieve it...

and then haul it up 50 stairs to dry land.  All because it has the potential to become a coffee table.

I have learned not to doubt the visions of my woodaholic because typically what results from his wood obsession is something that had been slyly hiding.

That's the thing with woodaholics, they can cleverly coax things out of what looks like an ordinary piece of wood.

Sometimes, it's almost as if he has just pulled a rabbit out of his hat, when I see his latest creations.

Other times, I realize,

a woodaholic can refine his obsession into a restoration hardware-esque vision.

My woodaholic has taken over the While Wearing Heels Etsy Shop...where you can find each of these creations for sale.

And, I realize, by allowing all of this, I am merely enabling my woodaholic.
