Will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow bringing 6 more weeks of winter?
Grace and I were inspired to make our own groundhog, a shadow painting groundhog to be exact.
We did a quick google search for groundhog silhouettes. It made me sad that one of the only decent silhouettes I found had a target on its belly.
We cut our groundhog out of a thick advertisement piece and glued him {very lightly} to some brown card stock. With a sponge and some white paint, we dabbed him lightly around his perimeter.
When his shadow dried, we carefully lifted up our groundhog pattern and admired his shadow.
This groundhog saw his shadow, you'll have to wait until Saturday to see if Punxsutawney Phil does too.
Happy early Groundhog Day.
That is adorable. Sweet Moses, you're on a crafting roll!
ReplyDeleteSCHOOL CRAFT! Love it! But who hunts groundhogs?!?!
ReplyDeletewhat a cute idea! :) I love Groundhog Day ...only when winter isn't going to be longer...ha!
ReplyDeleteThis is really cute!!! We had groundhogs where I use to live. I named one, "Apples" cause he would sit in our backyard and eat the fallen green apples every year. He was so cute, and I took lots of pictures of him. I read somewhere that groundhogs are "wood chucks" and you know they destroy trees and be a nuisance, to some, thus the target symbol.
ReplyDeleteWe called ours "woodchucks." Most of them were seen dead at the side of the road. Do not tell your daughter.
ReplyDeleteYou lost me to laughter at the target on the groundhog comment. HILarious. Considering it's 0 degrees here, I sure hope spring is on its way!
ReplyDeleteCute and fun craft idea especially for the little ones. Yet another pathetic winter in Chicago so I wouldn't mind having winter stick around just a bit longer. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute Amy! Groundhog day doesn't really mean much here because we have 6 more weeks of winter no matter what our Wiarton Willie sees here in Ontario. It's just an excuse to have a winter party (yay!), and this winter we need all the excuses we can get!!
ReplyDeleteSo fun to see you and Grace in her Dorothy dress (boy, do I remember the Dorothy days!) crafting together! This is all perfect for your training as a future Girl Scout Leader. That's inevitable, I can tell! Oh, and Hurry, spring!
ReplyDeleteLove this. Pinned it. And how cute is Grace in that dress??
ReplyDeleteI have a groundhog girl...that said, I will never forget about groundhog day ever again! We usually let her stand outside (for a second) on her birthday and see what the forecast is :)
ReplyDeleteI did this craft with my boys and I featured your link on my blog. Thanks for always inspiring me to be a better Mom!!!

So adorable and what a fun project to do with Grace!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy,
ReplyDeleteAwesome! With the Superbowl coming up, I totally forgot about Groundhog Day!
I'm so happy for you and Grace. You get to spend so much time together. She's going to grow up so loved and confident in herself:) Di
I have to confess, I didn't know Groundhog day was an actual "Day" I thought it was just a movie :) How fun, Do you want 6 more weeks or does everyone go out to see if Spring is on it's way? I love Grace's little goundhog shadow - and it's without the target!
ReplyDeleteWho's it feels so early for Groundhog Day! I'm excited to follow your blog.
ReplyDeleteI. Hope. Not.
