Washi Reindeer Art

Washi, it's all the rage.  And apparently, that extends itself to Christmas decorations.

It all started with a Goodwill purchase.  In the beginning of the year, I came across this ornate frame for $4.99 from Goodwill.

I quickly popped out the painting.  I set it in my donation pile, where each month, I rescued it but never committed to figuring out what to do with it until I came across Stylizimo DIY Antlers.

That painting, which had repeatedly been rescued from the donation pile, finally had a purpose and I couldn't wait to get started.

I repainted the floral canvas white, using what I had...regular house paint.

Using roughly the same design Stylizimo did, I drew the reindeer shape I wanted in pencil.

Then I firmly pressed the red and white polka dot washi tape into place over the pencil lines I drew.

The finishing touch, I added some glass ornaments.

And, now I might be saved from blogging eviction since I finally created something using washi tape.  Phew!

Thanks Stylizimo for the inspiration!

Like the barn wood trees?

You can find them in the While Wearing Heels Etsy Shop.

  2. Darling! I love it! Welcome to the wide world of Washi ;)

  3. Looks great! Now it seems I'm the only one left that hasn't used Washi tape! :)

  4. My craftiness generally doesn't extend to home decor but this one I had to attempt.

  5. Washi tape is so great! And this project turned out wonderfully! So cute!

  6. Very cute. I still have not used Washi tape! I bet the boys would like it. I should find a craft for them to do with it. :-)

  7. Awesome! I love every detail! I haven't used washi tape for awhile - maybe I better brush up on those skills sometime soon!

  8. Oooh deer that's really cool, ahem some of us have not yet washi taped, I'm in big trouble. Mr WWH's trees are perfect with it.

  9. I think this weekend I will try to find some washi. I am not sure if we have them in Turkey. Again again I love your creativity.

  10. Love the reindeer art!!! And I love the vignette you created around it! I've been eyeing those barn wood trees since last week... they've been calling my name so don't be surprised if they make their way to me. ;)

  11. I have yet to get on the bandwagon myself, but this is sure fun! The ornaments are the perfect touch!

  12. I've never used washi tape but this may have inspired me to give it a go!

    1. Thank goodness, I wasn't alone, Maureen. I thought I was the last to try washi :)
