I Heart Matryoshka Doll

I have a confession to make.

I heart Matryoshka Dolls, also known as Russian Nesting dolls, and all of the details that make them up.

I heart them so much they have been my main source of crafting inspiration recently.

For my niece, I made a Matryoshka doll {without a pattern!}.  The two little Matryoshkas fit in the apron pockets of the big Matryoshka.  More or less, the little ones nest within the big one.

I also expressed my love for Matryoshka dolls in embroidery form.

Sadly, this kitschy embroidered Matryoshka Doll has no home.  She is waiting for someone to buy her {from my Esty shop} and give her a place of honor.

If I keep up this newest crafting obsession, I just might have to add a 'I Heart Matryoshka Doll' tab to While Wearing Heels.

  2. Oh I love them too. I put a vinyl one on Elizabeth's lunch box and mum made me a pouch and bought me a set which are actually measuring cups.

Your dolls are gorgeous and that embroidery is amazing, gorgeous project. I love this.

  5. I love Russian nesting dolls too!! I love the plush you made for your niece... and love how you created the "stacking" effect in the pockets. Your framed embroidery turned out beautiful and without a doubt will find a home in no time!

  6. The stitching on the framed work is beautiful! And the dolls are just divine...and with no pattern - I've got sewing envy right now! I'm lucky to sew a straight line to make a curtain for my kitchen door (no joke!)

  13. During my mission trip to Ukraine, I brought back several dolls for family, friends and me. The art work the crafters in Ukraine did was beautiful, it was hard not to buy all of them.

    I love Matryoshka dolls too.

  15. That is so pretty! One of my former students from Chicago just adopted a little girl from Russia. (She was one of the last people to get her child out of Russia before Putin imposed the ban.) The baby's entire room is decorated in Matryoshka dolls. I'm going to have to direct her to your etsy shop. :)
