Goodwill Hunting Hunting Roundup

It's that time of month again, when I show off my most recent thrifted finds.

So, without further ado...

This past month, my trips to Goodwill were minimal.  My only memorable trip was on the 15th.  Depending on your area, Goodwills will offer special discount days or half off days.  On the 15th, bonus scratch off tickets are handed out to customers with a Goodwill card (a preferred card for Goodwill).  The scratch off ticket gives you the opportunity to save an extra 10, 15 or 20 percent off your purchase.

This month, I bought the following.

For just over $18.

First up, a brand new, still with tags, Pairs in Pears.  This retails for $14.95 and I paid $1.99 (minus 10%).

I can't seem to resist vintage tins.  This one, at .99 cents (minus 10%), was no exception.

Goodwill is also a great place to shop craft materials.  I've found new yarn, ribbons, threads and craft kits before.  This time, I found a wooden embroidery hoop for .49 cents (minus 10%). 

I love having a stash of wooden embroidery hoops on hand to make things like my make a wish embroidery or...

an arrangement of custom felt bunnies.

But back to my thrifting finds.

This Estee Lauder toiletry bag, was a bit of an impulse buy but for $3.99 (minus 10%) I decided to indulge. 

I got Grace some chalk a-doos for .99 cents (minus 10%).  I love chalk holders and Grace loves princesses, so it was a win win.

 

I found a cute dress for 3.99.  A good tip, when buying clothes, look them over for any rips, tears or missing buttons.  Most thrift stores will offer a discount if you find a flaw.  This dress was missing a button and I was given $1 discount, plus I got an extra 10% off with my scratch off card.

I also found 2 work shirts for my husband.  Kenneth Cole and Tailorbyrd for $4.99 a piece ($10 total, minus 10%).

The Tailorbyrd shirt had this cute lime green pelican embroidered below the last button.

My total $21.42.  I spent over $20 (which Goodwill gives10% discount everyday for spending) and I I had a scratch off for an additional 10% off.  With my discounts my total was $17.36.  With tax, I was just over $18.

It's that time of month where I recap my thrifted finds.  So, without further ado...

Goodwill is the perfect place to find vases (and baskets). 

I found this silver vase for $1.99.  The shape off the vase has a loving cup feel.  

I also found this glass vase for .99 cents which I customized and turned into a faux perfume bottle vase.

Often times, Goodwill will buy overstock or returned items from Target.  I had, at one point, assumed Target donated their merchandise to Goodwill.  This is not the case, Target sells their merchandise at a discount to Goodwill and Goodwill, in turn, will then sell it.

I found a shabby chic pink Threshold candle for .99.  The lowest Target price was $2.98. 

No trip to Goodwill is complete, for me, without looking through their coats.

I found this vintage trench for $4.99.  I loved the label (and it was made in Chicago).  I wasn't sure the style was completely me, especially for $4.99.  I scoured this coat to see if there were any flaws, wear and or tear.  Under the arm, I discovered the seam had come out under one of the arms.  *If ever you find a missing button or a tear ask the manager if they will knock something off the price. 

I brought the coat to a manager, who looked at the ripped seam and offered to take half off the coat.

For $2.50, I think this coat is definitely my style.

I get a lot of comments about how 'my' Goodwill has great prices.  In reality, though, I only show my thrifted purchases AND I only make a thrifted purchase if it's a great price.

Last month, I stumbled across a Kids Kraft pink play kitchen in BEAUTIFUL shape for $7.  This month, I stumbled across this Barbie house for $49.99.  *I did not buy this Barbie house.  I found it interesting, in comparison to the kitchen set I found, this was priced over $40 more. 

I also came across this metal Rainbow Brite stove, which I also did NOT buy.  It was fun to look at.  The cost was $35.99.

Goodwill Hunting Roundup

It's been awhile but it's back.  So, without further ado, here are my most recent Goodwill finds.

I am a sucker for vintage handbags.  Ok, to be honest, this handbag isn't vintage but it certainly has that charm and character I am drawn too. 

So for $1.49, it's being added to my collection. 

I bought another flower frog.  It was .49 cents.  Perhaps the person pricing inventory coming in had no idea what it was.  I see flower frogs at the flea market all the time and they range from $5 to $10.

But my heart belongs to the metal flower frogs, like this one I did buy from the flea market.  The metal ones are perfect for displaying recipes or cards.

Letters (or numbers) also catch my eye.  I bought the two below for $1 (it was half off yellow ticket day).  Perhaps they were marked down because the G was backwards (just kidding!  checking to see if you are skimming or reading).

And lastly, I buckled and bought Grace this sweet and simple dollhouse for $2.99.

Why do I feel slightly guilty about this?  Well, we did just make a custom dollhouse for her 4th birthday, last year.

One that has an exact replica of the nursery we brought her home to.

But still, the Goodwill dollhouse was only $2.99.

Sigh.

Goodwill Hunting Roundup

It's that time of month where I share my Goodwill finds.  I have continued to show restraint in my Goodwill purchases but I'll let you decide that for yourself after you take a look at my purchases from the past month.

First up, I found two handbags. Handbags are my weakness.

The black handbag has a sparkly black hard case.  It's basic and could go with just about anything.  And, was only $1.49.

The beaded gold bag is obviously vintage.  The chain was missing but the bead work was in perfect condition.  Guess how much?  This one was $1.49, too!  My handbag collection continues to grow and for $3, I can't feel too guilty about it.

Sadly, I passed on this vintage vanity chair with velvet cushion.  I walked by it several times, trying to figure out where I could put this beautiful chair but in a small house, sometimes, things have to be left behind.  For $14.99, I left this beauty behind.  This Vintage Groove I know are shaking your head in disapproval right now.

Every trip I make to Goodwill, I look through the frame section.  I found an oak picture frame for $1.99, which I painted white and then used it to show off the hand embroidered Matryoshka doll which quickly sold from my Etsy shop.  Thanks Michelle!

I found this old spool of velvet ribbon for .99 cents.  Nearly all of the 18 yards of ribbon is still on the spool.

The original tags from LeeWards {where my Grandma once worked} are still on the spool and was originally $4.44.

I also found some new things to hang in my closet. 

I typically won't gravitate to novelty prints but this month I was.  The sheer sleeveless top has an elephant print, it reminded me of my grandma and made me smile and for $3.99 it will be hung in my closet.  The $2.99 mustard thermal, still with Target tags, had sweet pink birds and I am drawn to that has pink as an accent color. 

I also found a few skirts.  The pink and cream striped Old Navy skirt was bought on half off pink tag day, costing me $2.  The red and tan skirt Gap skirt was $3.99.  I can't wait for spring so I can wear both of these.

Though I showed restraint, I am still slightly tormented that I left that vanity chair behind.

Goodwill Hunting Roundup

It's that time again for my Goodwill roundup.  It's been 2 months since I shared my finds and believe it or not, I have been showing enormous restraint.  Even though I got this in the mail...

Yes, Goodwill sent me a birthday card and 25% my total purchase coupon.

I found these Restoration Hardware photo frame ornaments.  They appeared to be brand new and still had the original tags.  They were .99 cents each.  I bought 6 and had big plans to put them on my Christmas tree...unfortunately, that never happened.  There's always next year, right? 

This is one of my Christmas outfits.  The pink corduroy jacket was my most recent purchase, bought for $3.99 and I love it.  The pants and shoes were both previous Goodwill purchase.  In total, this outfit, including shoes, was under $15. 

I also found these America Eagle pants.  They can be rolled up or left down, or I suppose, if you were a rebel, you could wear one up and one down.  For $3.99, they are the perfect addition to my summer wardrobe.

Grace also scored a few items.  I picked up this Gap sweater dress for $2.99. 

And, I found her a Gymboree winter vest, for next year, for $4.99.

When I get over my creative block, I plan on using this .99 cent sheet of cork to either line the inside of my cabinets or make coasters out of. 

I stumbled across these Crate and Barrel meat markers for .99 cents.  They were unopened and in the original package.  I thought they might be the perfect addition to a BBQ gift basket.  So, in the cart they went and in my closet they now wait.

For the house, I added another jar to my growing collection, the empty jar.  I paid $1.99.  All 3 jars below were Goodwill purchases coming in less than $6.  

When I come across something truly vintage, I have a hard time putting it back.  I found this metal tray with the most interesting design.  My favorite is the weather vane rooster.  I paid $1.99 and think I got a great deal.  I am almost thinking of opening a vintage section of my Etsy shop and listing it.

I found this $1.99 pillow and thought I had the perfect spot for it.  When I got it home, I realized, it's true, I do have a pillow obsession and this poor little guy really didn't have a spot after all.  He's in the closet keeping the meat markers company at the moment.

Believe it or not, I've been to Goodwill 2 times this year and I have left empty handed both times.

It's that time of month where I reveal my Goodwill finds from the past month and you decide if an intervention is necessary.

The month, you might be surprised at the restraint I showed.

Remember when I mentioned I can pass up anything that is Tiffany Blue?  The same can be said of globes.  For $3.99, this globe needed to do little else to convince me to put it into my shopping cart and take it home.

One reason I showed some restraint this month was due to being preoccupied with Grace's preschool Fall Party.  Since I had goodie bags for her classmates, I thought I should also give something to her teachers.  If you ever need baskets, go to Goodwill.  I scored these 2 baskets for $3 and filled them with my father in-laws gourds.  Not a bad teacher's gift for a $3 investment, right?

For $3.99, I bought this monkey costume...

And turned it into a pig costume. 

I found this made in Italy chalkboard for .99 cents.  I think I might use it for a prop in pictures.

Did I mention if you need baskets to check out Goodwill?  I wanted a basket to store my blankets in and for $2.99, this was perfect.

I've been fairly reasonable so far, right?

Well, this is where you may need to step in.

For .99 cents, I bought this brand new sweet 6 month old outfit.  Of course, Grace will never be able to squeeze into it but it was too cute to pass up and did I mention, it was only a dollar?

I promise, for the rest of this post, my senses returned and I continued to make reasonable purchases.  

I added a few glass jars to my collection.  This jar was .99 cents.  For now, I put my extra lavender from my DIY lavender sachets inside.

The glass jar with the lid below was also .99 cents.  I filled it with a succulent and added it to my greenhouse window.

I guess, the key, for me, in showing thrift shopping restraint is to plan more preschool parties and make more pig costumes.
